Where Custom Porcelain Dolls are My Specialty

Antique Reproduction dolls are my personal favourites. There is a definite challenge in painting a doll to look like the old dolls. And then there is the costuming. I love researching what the original dolls wore and then finding the fabrics and creating the outfit, from the doll's hat all the way to her shoes. Here are a couple of my special "girls".

Hilda #1

More photos of Hilda

Please meet Hilda.

This wonderful baby girl was originally made in Germany by the Kestner doll company around the turn of the century - 20th that is. She comes in many sizes but this one is the largest available. She wears newborn to 3 month old baby clothes.
My version of Hilda has a handmade mohair wig and beautiful big blue glass eyes. She is dressed in an heirloom type gown made of fine cotton with yards of cotton lace. Her gown is finished with a collar of lace and ribbon embroidery. She wears a lovely slip and panties that match her gown. Her outfit is completed by tiny cloth shoes.
This beautiful child would be a delightful addition to your home or to wear that family heirloom christening gown.

Circle Dot Bru

More Bru Photos

Dolls Created by Leon Casimir Bru are my all time favorites.

This particular lovely girl is a Circle Dot Bru. this is one of the earlier Brus made in France in the mid 1880's by the Bru doll manufacturing company. French dolls of this era are called Bebes -in other words they are idealized children mainly of the wealthy. This Bru stands 29" tall , has a cloth body and beautiful porcelain hands and feet. Her dress is an ivory silk jaquard in a typical drop waist style. She has lovely large brown glass eyes and a handmade mohair wig in a soft strawberry color. She has shoes and a handbag to match her dress. She wears a small pear shaped hat decorated with roses to compliment her hair and skin tones.
